Enoch

As we continue to look at Walkin’ with Jesus, let’s consider for a moment Enoch, the father of Methuselah. In Genesis 5:24 it says, “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him”. The word “walked’ is used here in a figurative way. It means that Enoch walked in agreement with God. In Amos 3:3 it says, “How can two walk together except they be agreed”. We must agree with what God says, then walk (live as He directs) according to His word. The Hebrew writer states it this way, Hebrews 11:5, “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God”. We see in this verse, Enoch’s walk was a walk of faith and it pleased God. Our walk, too, must be a walk of faith in order to please God for Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him”. Our walk is described as walking in a new life. Paul says in Romans 6:4 “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life”. This walking in newness of life would be living according to the teaching of Christ. John calls this walk, a walk in the light. I John 1:7 “if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin”. If we all walk in agreement, faith, and light, then we will have a fruitful walk with Jesus here on this earth and forever in the world to come.
