Peace That Passes Understanding

The greatest search of the human heart is the search for peace. The longing for inner peace is the root of many of our actions. Many search for peace in bottles, relationships, sexuality, drugs, wealth, and many other places. The sign on the door may say “Happy Hour”, but it is only a temporary fix at best, then comes reality. On a larger scale, nations have what is called “peace summits”, but yet there are still wars, unrest and civil turmoil throughout the world. The fact is, there will never be peace in the world, until there is first, peace in men’s hearts. The truth is, God alone can give us peace. He accomplishes this by giving us His Son, “The Prince of Peace“ Isaiah 9:6. Jesus tells us in John 14:27 “My peace I give you, not as the world gives…” The world offers a peace that is a mirage. The peace that God offers is truly real. The question is then, how do we obtain this peace that God offers through His Son? The answer can be found in Paul’s writings such as Romans 5:1, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…” Or as Paul writes in Romans 8:6 “to be spiritually minded is life and peace”. We see then this peace is available to those who have a right relationship to God through Jesus Christ. We see this in the lives of Paul and Silas who had been beaten and cast into prison and put in stocks. Yet at midnight they prayed and sang praises to God. The peace that Jesus gives is not dependent upon the environment we might find ourselves in, but by having a proper relationship with Him. Not only can we have true peace in this life, but everlasting peace in the world to come. Are you ‘Walkin' With Jesus’ and enjoying the “peace that passes all understanding”?
