In John 4:8, there are three words which should be engraved in our hearts: "God is love." I believe that love is the foundation of our Christianity. It is the most important virtue to be found in the church today. If the church does not have peace, it does not have love; if it does not have unity, then no love is found there. But also, if we do not have God in our hearts, then we can't have true love.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 13 what love is. In verse 3 he says if one does not have love, it profits him nothing. In Deuteronomy 6:5, the Lord says to love Him with all your heart, soul, and might. Jesus says in John 14:15 that, "If you love me, keep my commandments". In 1 John 5:3 it states, "For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not burdensome. "
How can we, as Christians, not keep his commandments? It is a small task compared to what he did for us. There is no greater love than that from God. We all know John 3:16, but have we given it deep thought? God loved us so much, that he gave His own Son to die for our sins. We cannot match a love like that. 1 Peter 4:8 says that love covers all sins, which is what Christ's death was! --LOVE-- John says in 1 John 3:16, that we know love, because Christ laid down his life for us. In 1 John 4: 10, he says that God loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. "We love Him because He first loved us", says alot to me. How can we not love God for this gift of Christ, plus the innumerable other blessings?
If we are not moved by the thought of this love, then we are not where we should be. The thought of love should touch our Christian hearts, unless they are hardened by the love of the world. How can we love this worlds What has it done for us? It does not compare at all to the sacrifice and love of Christ! We, today, as Christians, need to wake up to the love of God. We need to leave the conformities of the world and live in love as God has instructed us to do; because the world does not know of TRUE LOVE.
